Dear Victoria,
Thank you for raising 1,372 pounds of food at Evans Glass. The food you collected will fill emergency food boxes that provide a three-to-five day supply of food to families and individuals who do not have enough to eat. An average food box weighs 50 pounds for a family of three. You are part of a community effort that responds to need and works to make a difference. Working together, we collected and distributed 34.3 million pounds of food in Oregon and Clark County, Washington last year. Community food and fund drives in the Portland Metro area alone raised over $225,000 and 180,000 pounds of food! Working together, Oregon Food Bank works to address the root causes of hunger through many programs including Advocacy, the Learning Garden and the Nutrition Education programs. Working together, more low-income families received food stamps. Thanks to the concerted outreach by Oregon Food Bank staff, volunteers and partner organizations. Last year 37% of the people receiving emergency food were children. Each month, an estimated 194,000 people, including 72,000 children, ate meals from an emergency food box. In addition, soup kitchens and shelters distributed 3.9-million meals. Oregon Food Bank is the story of what we can accomplish, when working together. We thank you for choosing to fight hunger and its root causes. We thank you for your compassion and support ... because no one should be hungry. Sincerely, Christine Hames Corporate Relations Manager Dear Friends at Evans Glass, Inc. Thank you so much for your gift of $291.66, in a check dated December 28,2006, by participating in an independent food and fund drive, received from Evans Glass, Inc. on January 8, 2007. Our sincere gratitude goes out to partners like you for recognizing the ongoing issue of hunger in our community and reaching out to make a difference. With your help, Oregon Food Bank is at work on solutions to hunger through distribution of emergency food via a network of caring agencies, nutrition education and public policy efforts. We are honored you chose to be a part of the solution by partnering with Oregon Food Bank. Your generosity helps make this a better community for us all. With gratitude, Barbara C.
